Hangar No. 1 (VIP II) Walton Aerodrome, Lahore

Hangar No. 1 (VIP-II) at Walton Aerodrome Lahore was used by Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and other dignitaries as VIP passenger lounge in 1947-48.  In Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) records it is still known as VIP II Hangar.

When Walton Airport was closed for commercial airline operations in 1962. This hangar was turned into residential quarters for CAA employees.

In December 1998 this hangar was allotted to Ultralight Sports Flying Club Pakistan on  license by Civil Aviation Authority for promotion of general aviation in Pakistan.

The hangar being very old and subjected to time and weather calamities was in a poor condition. The floor and side walls were damaged and rusted. Since originally designed as a lounge, there was no office space or main door to the hangar to facilitate instant operation of USFC.

In January 1999 USFC started comprehensive renovation work on this hangar in order to fulfil the infrastructural requirements of the club with the valuable support of its members and the Civil Aviation Authority.

By the grace of Allah, we have restored this historic hangar building area in to a pleasant looking and practical sight for housing, maintaining, parking, training and pleasure flying of  Ultralight Aircraft�s. This is indeed a very impressive facility for the owners and flyers who long and cherish this unique flying experience. This is a one of its kind facility in Pakistan.

We are grateful to the Ministry of Defence for saving Walton Aerodrome from turning into a residential colony. Thus giving us the opportunity to rehabilitate this hangar for our sport flying activities along with other general aviation operators.
